OUR STORY
The Journey to Reach You
From Peru to the Mediterranean, Shantai is a journey that connects origin, process and time. From the mountains of Cusco to the final roast in Barcelona, each step is part of what makes our coffee unique.

From Peru to the Mediterranean, Shantai is a journey that connects origin, process and time. From the mountains of Cusco to the final roast in Barcelona, each step is part of what makes our coffee unique.
The Discovery
Our first encounter with coffee was in the mountains of Peru. What began as curiosity soon became a connection with a land, a culture and a different way of understanding time.

the VALLEY
OF CUSCO
In Cusco, we learned that everything begins with respect: for the land that nourishes us, the rhythm of nature and the people who make coffee possible.

The community
Working side by side with local people taught us that coffee is not a product. It is a way of life, built on effort, gratitude and fair collaboration.

THE PROCESS
From the first cherry to the final bean, we learned the importance of patience. Every step —picking, washing, drying— shows the value of doing things slowly and carefully.

THE ROAST
Back in Barcelona, we understood that Shantai is a bridge between two worlds: ancestral wisdom and contemporary craft. Here, every roast continues the story that began in the Andes, bringing that same serene energy to every cup, all the way to you.

OUR TEAM
“We do not want to be just another customer for coffee growers. We want to be a bridge that brings their coffee to Europe, respecting its origin and quality, and ensuring dignified conditions for those who make it possible.”

The coffee growers
People are the origin
We work with small high-altitude coffee growers in the Cusco Valley, where producing better coffee also means producing less. At more than 2,000 metres above sea level, yields are lower, but quality is higher. For years, that effort was not fairly rewarded.

The Cusco Coffee Growers Association is an essential part of who we are
The Cuzco Coffee Producers Association. And why it is so important to us

The association was created to bring small producers together, grow together and defend the true value of their coffee against a system that does not recognise their work.

Our role is not to impose a price, but to ask about it. To understand what they need in order to work with dignity, and build from there.

Today, more than 300 coffee growers are part of this association. A project that not only improves the price of coffee, but also gives meaning back to everything behind it.
